Post Your Evidence of the Most effective Leadership Outcome
From the reflections of the week, what has been the most effective example of leadership actions demonstrated in the field this week and Why?
What standard(s) and element(s) most highly correlated with the actions described?
This post was probably the most difficult to apply the ELCC standards to, but I think I found the answer around the 3:25 mark. It's all about CARING!
In the beginning of the clip, Christine was someone warped into this dehabilitating magical spell (all the pink stuff that was glowing around her) which I can only assume was going to eventually kill her. I don't know. You can look this being symbolic in three respects: 1) the student; 2) the school system; 3) the teacher. Given the educational climate of today, many of our students teachers, and schools are broken, dehabilated, and in dire need of vitality. Education is a difficult job. Edcuational leadership, I assume, is even more difficult. We're faced with educating the deaf, the blind, the poor, the ELL, the at-risk, the gifted, and everyone else in between. It takes a strong leader, a transformational leader to breathe the spirit back into our schools, our students, our teachers, and our communities. As unmanly as this may sound, we're the carebears: 21st century educational leaders! Fast forward to the 3:25 mark and listen for this: “Open your minds and your ears, and listen to the voices of those who CARE”. Caring breathes life back into Chrstine. Of course, Christine is symbolic of all the components that an educational leader is responsible for leading. This is going to sound really corny, but if you're not a Carebear (lol!), or in this because you genuinely care about students and your other constituents, you might as well find a new field.
I use to watch the Care Bares when I was a child and I always admired how whenever they had a problem they worked as a team, community to solve it. The ELCC standards that best fits this video are standard four and five. The video touched on sacrifice and how helping other does can be very rewarding in the end. The video focused on working as a team and how a village is much stronger than one, especially when you are trying to make a difference. This relates to children in the classroom, often times teachers do all the work and don’t have the support of families after schools hours, but maybe if they did the child would understand and see that everyone cares about his or her well-being and putting forth the effort is worth it, which is standard 4 in action . Standard five states to promote success of all by acting with integrity, fairly, and in an ethical manner. When the video first came on you could tell the young girl had helped the dark cloud at some point and believed in him despite his outer appearance or his back, she acted with integrity and was fair which is very important in becoming a leader.
The “Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation” clip conveyed the importance of caring and possessing a genuine love for others. The message in this video clip can be seen as a relation to all of the ELCC standards, however, it most closely relates to ELCC Standard 4 and ELCC Standard 5.
ELCC Standard 4 describes collaborating with families and other members of the community in order to promote success. The embodiment of this standard can be seen through the care bears and the care cousins working together to save the girl that had been hurt by the evil cloud. Eventually, with the help and care of all those involved, she was saved. ELCC Standard 5 states that leaders must possess the ability to act with both integrity and fair ethics. In the beginning of the clip, the evil cloud told the girl to “save herself”. However, she chose to put her own well-being aside and provided protection for the care bears. This situation provides a great example of what leaders should in many instances. Leaders must frequently disregard their own desires, needs, and motives in order to help those they guide.
The overall message in the “Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation” was to simply care. A truly effective leader that is admired by both his/her peers and followers always holds the interest of the people they lead. Moreover, this idea is imperative to personify in educational leadership because if you can’t help, who can?
